The Rights of Victims of Crime
A victim of crime is a person who suffered harm (whether it be physical, emotional, financial or psychological harm) because of a crime, or a person who dependents on someone (for example a parent) who has been injured or died as a result of a crime. Every person is unique and so everyone’s experience will be different. It’s important to get help and support to deal with these effects.
Rights and protections
Victims of crime in New South Wales have a Charter of Victims Rights to protect their rights. If you are in a life-threatening or emergency situation, you should always call 000 for help immediately. If you have been injured by an act of violence, such as an assault, robbery, domestic violence or sexual assault, that took place in NSW, you may be able to get compensation between $7,500 and $50,000. If you are concerned about your safety you can apply for a protection order. There are two types of orders: a Domestic Violence Order (DVO) or a Personal Protection Order (PPO).
Under the Charter of Victims Rights, a victim should be told about the progress of police investigations, be informed of any bail the defendant has entered into and the conditions of that bail, any charges laid against the accused, information about the trial/court process and the outcome of the trial.
Finally, if you have any enquiries about your rights as a victim of crime please contact the 'Victims Services’ Victims Access Line on 1800 633 063.

Personal Reflection of A Story of Shannon
Shannon is a 18-year-old girl who wants to move out of home with her 19-year-old boy friend. However, it is hard for them to find an affordable flat near her school. Then her mother suggested them to wait a few years and taught them some basic life skills.
Under the law, Shannon and her boy friend can move out because they are both over the age of 18. Yet, it is better for them to live with their parents for a few years until they become more mature and finish their schools.

LIFE FINALLY EXPLAINED !
On the first day, God created the dog and said, "Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years."The dog said, "That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?" So God agreed......
On the second day, God created the monkey and said, "Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span."
The monkey said, "Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the dog did?" And God agreed......
The monkey said, "Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the dog did?" And God agreed......
On the third day, God created the cow and said, "You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years."The cow said, "That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?" And God agreed again......
On the fourth day, God created humans and said, "Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years."But the human said, "Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?""Okay," said God. "You asked for it."

Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?""Okay," said God. "You asked for it."
So that is why for our first twenty years, we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years, we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years, we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years, we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone. Life has now been explained to you.

Obesity in Children
Obesity is when your body stores unused energy (kilojoules) as body fat. The reasons for childhood obesity include unhealthy food choices, family eating habits, lack of physical activity, spending a lot of time on sedentary pursuits, overweight parents and genetic factors.
The statistics shows, in Australia, one in five children and adolescents are either overweight or obese. The numbers of overweight children aged 7–15 are almost doubled from 1985 to 1995 and the numbers of obese children have more than tripled. However, obesity is a serious medical conditions not only in Australia but also in many other countries.
Some changes of life style are making worse of the obesity problem. For example, Energy-dense foods and drinks are more popular, the use of cars has increased. These changes have led to people either eating more or becoming less active, all of which has contributed to an increase in overweight and obesity.
Potential health problems for obese children include: type 2 diabetes , eating disorders , sleep apnoea, cardiomyopathy and so on.
Social problems for obese children and adolescents Obesity can have a major impact on how children feel about themselves and how they interact with others. Obese adolescents are more likely to have low self-esteem, which may impact on other aspects of their lives such as the development of friendships and competency at school.
Go to your doctor to get some help and suggestion.

Notes:
*eat for fat loss and eat food off smaller plates
*some of us can be prone to overeating when food supply is plentiful
*people can get more satisfaction by putting a dish on a smaller plate and to make it look bigger
*food presentation is important
Summary:
This is an advice about how to eat for loss fat. People know if we reduce our calorie intake, we can lose weight. However, some of us can be prone to overeating when food supply is plentiful. A recent study shows that food presentation is important. People can get more satisfaction by putting a dish on a smaller plate and to make it look bigger. That is, we can eat less by using a smaller plates.
Personal Reflections:

Summary and Personal Reflections of "TAFEs to offer degrees"
Craig N & Dow S, August 22,2010 "TAFEs to offer degrees" THE SUN-HERALD
Notes:
*TAFEs offer bachelor degrees
*TAFE become a higher-income education provide
*TAFE students pay more for their degrees than university students
federal government subsidises only university degrees
*TAFE degrees give poor and regional students better access to higher education
*help students from low socio-economic areas get the degrees they deserve
*help the federal government achieve its goal to increase the number of people aged 25 to 34 with a degree
Summery:
TAFEs institutes are going to offer a limited number of bachelor degrees and to become a higher-income education provider. This plan would give poor and regional students better access to higher education, and help them get the degrees they deserve. It also would help the federal government achieve its goal to increase the number of people aged 25 to 34 with a degree. However, TAFE students have to pay more for their degrees than university students because the federal government just subsidises university degrees.

It is a fantastic news for TAFE will offer bachelor degrees because it will help more students to achieve their goals. I also believe that TAFE could become a higher-income education provider because there are many high-caliber and responsible teachers in TAFE. However, I think the government should subsidise TAFE students as well as university students.

Summary and Personal Reflections of Children 'wrongly diagnosed'
Dow S August 22, 2010 "Children 'wrongly diagn0sed'" The Sun-hearald
Notes:
*children in NSW are given diagnoses of behaviour disorder and emotional disturbance they don't have
*enrolled in special schools and support classes
*pressures on paediatricians to inflate diagnoses so kids get support in class
*special education costs sharply rose
Summery:
In recent years, many children in NSW have been diagnosed of behaviour disorder and emotional disturbance which they don't have. Three separate studies also indicated that "pressures on paediatricians to inflate diagnoses so kids get support in class". As a result, special schools and support classes enrolments skyrocket and the costs sharply rose, specially in south-western and western Sydney.
Personal Reflections:
In my opinion, if too many children are being wrongly diagnosed, the special education funding assistance system might be ripped off. In the other hand, if doctors get too much pressure to diagnose children with behaviour disorder and emotional disturbance, some kids who really need to be medicated might be ignored. Therefore, it is very difficult to solve this problem.

Summary and Personal Reflections of "Students dig in for sustainability"
Gerloff, O 11 August 2010 'Putting the future in good hangds' in Parramatta advertiser.
Summary
Students from Parramatta West Public School are planting a vegetable garden which is part of a school garden program. This program aimed to foster a new generation of leaders who concern about environment. It also helps students to learn about healthy eating, living things, business and accounting skills. Therefore, more students will become self-sufficient.
Personal Reflections
I like the School Gardens Project very much becouse our children really need to learn more knowledge of planting and more related knowledge. In addition, they also can enjoy the fruits of their labor. For instance, they can enjoy the fresh salad which is made of the vegetables planted by themselves, and they also can earn some money from selling the vegetables at the markets.
Above all, I believe the students will like this project because it is a fantastic program.

Grind
Recently, we continuous learn about Australian politics because of the federal election. Actually, I have not any interest about politics, so I just have a limited English vocabulary about politics. Therefore, I can hardly catch things what my teacher and classmates are talking about, and I also can hardly understand the texts about politics as well. I have tried my best to study that, yet I still haven't any idea.
I really feel a little frustrating.

FIFA 2010
The 2010 FIFA World Cup matches are being held in South Africa. As football is the most popular sport in the world, to watch the World Cup has become one kind of life. Some people also think that the joys and sorrows of the football fans are more wonderful than the matches.
There is a very funny thing in South Africa. People find that South Africa's team member always sing their national anthem seriously at the beginning, then they keep silent from the half to the end. It doesn't mean that they aren't patriotic, just because their national anthem probably is the most difficult anthem in the world. There are eleven official languages in South Africa and the anthem involves five of the official languages. Therefore, most South Africans can't sing the whole national anthem at all. It is really interesting, isn't it?

One of my classmates also likes Celine's songs. He thinks that she has a nice vioce and she sings very clear and her songs are full of emotion.

Little Healthy Lifestyle Tips
Every one wants to have a healthier and longer life. How can we achieve these goals? I think we can do many things.
Firstly, we should be optimistic and try our best to reduce stress. I believe a healthy lifestyle is the most important thing to have a happy life. If we always think live is too tough, then our lives will be really hard.
Secondly, a healthy diet is also very important. We should eat more vegetables and fruit, less meat, sugar and alcohol and smoking is not good. If you have unhealthy habits, don't worry, you can change them step by step.

Easter Holiday
In the Easter Holiday I just stayed at home. I went shopping on Easter Monday because all of the Easter’s chocolate would have 50% discount. I bought lots of chocolate eggs and rabbits because they were very lovely and delicious. I loved them so much! I thought the beautiful chocolate would be a fantastic gift for the child. So I gave most of them to my mother because she will go back to China in May. I hoped she could have these cute gifts to her friends which lived in China.
One of my classmates moved his home in the holiday. We went to help him and did a hard work in that whole day. Eventhough we all felt very tired we were still happy. In the meantime, he gave a set of car seat cover to us and we just desided to buy one in that morning. It was really coincident.

Last Friday I have interviewed my classmate Ni Hlcing about obesity. She thinks that people will be overweight if they eat too much junk food in their life. In her country Burma, the problem of obesity isn’t a serious phenomenon. Maybe just a few women are obese. People may have some healthy problem because of obesity. Such as high blood pressure, heart disease and so on. So they shall pay higher medical charges for their disease.
Ni Hlcing thinks that goverments should make some law to combat obesity. And parents should find more time to take care of their kids and stop their children from becoming obese. She also thinks that obesity isn’t immoral when so many people in the world are starving, because there are different situations in different countries.

Chinese New Year
Last two weeks it has been Chinese New Year, the Spring Festival. In my hometown Guangzhou city, we have got some flower markets in every district to celebrate the Spring Festival for three days in advance. We build beautiful archway in front of the flower markets and decorate with colourful lights. Guangzhou city is also called the city of flower as we love flowers and we also believe that flowers can bring good luck to us. So we buy many flowers, such as daffodils, peach blossoms, orchids, little tangerine trees and so on.
People always bless each other during the Spring Festival. The married people should give lucky money to the children and the single people to give all the best wishes to them.
The Chinese New Year Festival finishes at the day of the 15th of the first lunar month.

Stay Away From the Junk Food
At present junk food has flooded the fastfood and snack market because it is convenient and tasty. However, as we know, junk food is not healthy for people, especially for children.
Government and many other organizations have been trying to solve this problem. From my point of view, firstly, we should do more public advertising to let all parents pay attention to this problem. Thus, they should not spoil their children and give them too much junk food. Secondly, we should talk to the children about the disadvantage of the junk food and ask them to stay healthy. Thirdly, maybe we could provide healthier and more delicious snacks, fastfood and beverages to replace the junk food.
